Company Description
ArQule Inc (ArQule) is a biopharmaceutical company focusing on research and development of therapies in the field of oncology and to treat cancers and rare diseases. The company is developing products in oncology segment. Its pipeline products include ARQ 197 (tivantinib), ARQ 087, ARQ 092, ARQ 751, ARQ 531 and ARQ 761. The company's lead product candidate, ARQ 197, is an inhibitor of the c-Met receptor tyrosine kinase. It is undergoing development ARQ 197 for cancer cell growth and survival. c-Met is a target for cancer therapy, based on its multiple roles in cancerous cell proliferation, tumor spread, new blood vessel formation and resistance to drug therapies. This product is an orally available small molecule in phase III clinical trial. ARQ 197 was assigned the non-proprietary generic name, tivantinib. ARQ 087 is a multi-kinase inhibitor which is designed to preferentially inhibit the fibroblast growth factor receptor’s family. ARQ 092 is an Akt inhibitor. It is a proprietary pipeline of product candidate in Phase 1 clinical testing directed toward molecular targets and biological processes. ARQ 751 is a next-generation inhibitor of Akt. ARQ 531 is an investigational, potent, orally bioavailable and reversible inhibitor of both wild type and C481S-mutant BTK, planned to advance to Phase 1. ARQ 761, an activator of the damage response/checkpoint pathway, is in preclinical development stage. The current lead compound, ARQ 761, is a reformulation of ARQ 501. The company spent US$20 million towards its research and development activities for the fiscal year ended December 2016. It tests potential of products in numerous pre-clinical studies for safety, toxicology, and efficacy in oncology treatment. The company entered into an agreement with Daiichi Sankyo Co., Ltd. for the development and discovery of novel oncology therapeutics, tivantinib (ARQ 197). Under the terms of agreement, both the companies will collaborate to conduct research, clinical trials and the market launch of ARQ 197, a small molecule inhibitor of the c-Met receptor tyrosine kinase, in human cancer indications in the US, Europe, South America and the rest of the world, excluding Japan, China (including Hong Kong), South Korea and Taiwan, where Kyowa Hakko Kirin Co., Ltd. has exclusive rights for development and commercialization. ArQule and Daiichi Sankyo Co., Ltd., has made a license agreement for the discovery of novel kinase inhibitors in the field of oncology in the expansion of their research, development.
