Saint-Gobain Containers (doing business as Verallia North America) is a glass act. The company is the #2 producer of glass containers in the US, behind Owens-Illinois. Its glassmaking process includes melting, glass conditioning, forming, and annealing and coating. Its products mainly serve the food and beverage industry. Everything from apple juice and beer to pickles and barbecue sauce are sold in Saint-Gobain Containers jars and bottles. The company is also a major consumer of recycled glass. To focus on its core businesses, French building materials giant Compagnie de Saint-Gobain, which owns Verallia North America, announced plans in 2013 to sell it to Irelands Ardagh Group SA for $1.7 billion.
